I really liked the part where we talked about summative and formative assessments. It really made me think about how I grade and how I have been graded. In my Masters Program, 95% of the classes were evaluated on a summative test! The only measure of formative assessment was the fact that I could lose points for not attending class. On the other hand, I grade my students on participation, tests, quizzes, and homework, with 25% for each category.
The part on rubrics was pretty cool. I like to be able to see all of the helpful stuff that is available to us online. I already even have a web page through UEN, so It was cool to hear that it can be saved through them. I have some rubrics that I use, but I feel like I could be more explicit in letting my students know how they will be evaluated and have a clear method of grading so that all parties involve know what is expected and what their level of work will result in.
